The Federal Bureau of Investigation reportedly is assisting in a grand jury investigation of the Narcotics Strike Force. WVWI Radio One reported that FBI agents began executing search warrants at strike force offices on St. Thomas and St. Croix simultaneously Tuesday morning.
Police Commissioner Franz Christian said he was served with the grand jury subpoena Tuesday morning and that the department is cooperating fully with the FBI. As police commissioner and the governor's drug policy advisor, Christian oversees the Narcotics Strike Force.
The FBI is reportedly looking into strike force inventory, accounting records and computer files, among other items at the offices located at Sub Base on St. Thomas and at Gallows Bay, St. Croix.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Hugh "Pete" Mabe said Tuesday he had no comment on the matter.
FBI Special Agent in Charge James Judd did not return calls to his St. Thomas office today. FBI spokeswoman Sarah Lema also did not return phone calls to her office in San Juan.
