NEW PARK VISITOR CENTER SHOULD OPEN IN MARCH

The new V.I. National Park Visitors Center in Cruz Bay should be ready to open in March, according to Supt. Russell Berry Jr.
The two-story center was scheduled for completion by Feb. 28, Berry said, but there were construction delays as a result of Tropical Storm Jose in October and Hurricane Lenny in November.
Workers are completing the interior and roof of the building, he said, and planners are preparing new displays for the lobby.
The old Visitors Center lobby featured a glass-enclosed model of the park, wall-mounted wildlife displays and a push-button video presentation on Virgin Islands culture. Berry said the old displays will be back when the new center reopens, but there will also be new attractions inside and outside the building. "We hope to have the new exhibits in place at the end of this calendar year," he said.
The new center will also accommodate the VINP administrative offices that until now have been located on St. Thomas.
