CHEETAH'S TO HOLD TRACK MEET

The first annual Black History Month track and field meet will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19 at the Charlotte Amalie High School track.
Cheetah's Tracks, the CAHS racing team, is conducting the meet in conjunction with the St. Thomas Association of Roadrunners. The meet is dedicated to Mario Thomas, former CAHS track and field coach.
According to Cheetah's coach, Dale Joseph, Thomas not only was the force behind the school's numerous championships, he also provided scholarship opportunities for his student athletes. Some of Thomas' former students have gone on to represent the Virgin Islands in the Olympic games. Though retired from coaching, Thomas still serves as mentor to track members.
Joseph encouraged local teams to join the Saturday meet. Events run from the 100-meter race up to a 4×400 meter contest. He asked that contesting teams indicate their two top 100 meter runners.
Joseph can be contacted at (340) 775-1090, or fax at (340) 777-3959.
