Lt. Gov. Gerard Luz James II said Thursday that his office has meted out fines against several insurance adjusters in the Virgin Islands for violations recently uncovered by the Division of Banking and Insurance.
Cease-and-desist orders were issued and fines were levied against the adjusters who provided services without proper licenses, were off-island employees who were not properly registered or failed to pay appropriate taxes.
"Based on my office's investigation, several discrepancies were discovered with the public adjusters and we have issued orders accordingly," James said during a news conference on St. Thomas.
The adjusters identified by James as having violated various laws include:, Crawford VI Inc. and James Pay, McLarens Toplis Global Inc. and McLarens Toplis Puerto Rico, and the Armstrong Group and Edward Armstrong.
James promised that the Division of Banking and Insurance will remain vigilant in enforcing all rules and regulations of the industry.
