A NEW START, A NEW YEAR

With a new year, there comes a new start. Students have returned to school, after their long, enjoyable Christmas break; teachers have welcomed students back; first semester exams have been completed and classes are in session for the second semester. Acknowledging that it is now the year 2000, and most students' anxiety about the Y2K scare is over, we, especially seniors, are focused.
As students, our main focus is now on gaining as much knowledge as we can acquire. For seniors, graduation and college are foremost in our minds. In addition , there is excitement in the year. Here comes the excitement of the basketball season and the Miss CAHS Queen Competition! Also, with the world at our fingertips, we are at a pace with technology. Certain classrooms and our library are hooked up to the world via the internet.
This being a new year, we have new plans, positive reasons to be in school, and new goals to accomplish. So buckle up Hawks and prepare for the year 2000.
HOOPS SCOOPS

On Feb. 2, the Charlotte Amalie High School basketball team, the Chicken Hawks engaged in their first battle of the season against St. Peter and Paul Catholic School.
The competitive friction between the two teams was at a maximum high and with everyone at their peak. It was an explosive breakthrough game. The Charlotte Amalie basketball team that was coached into battle by Mr. Estrill came out victorious. They crushed the competition with their crucial post moves and also with the contribution of the game leader, Andrew Williams, who had ten points. Leaving the Saint Peter and Paul’s team with a loss of 63-32, the devastated team is sure to think twice whenever they fly into the Hawks’ nest.

Seven beautiful C.A.H.S. junior gems are vying for the title of Miss Charlotte Amalie High School. The show takes place on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000 in the C.A.H.S. auditorium. The groups front to back are Marisel Melendez, Jamie Mercer, Marlene Neaves, Blondie Tuitt, Joya Pogson, Tanna Abraham, and La’Monique Morris.
The girls will make appearances in an introductory dance, swim wear,sports wear, professional wear, talent, evening wear and question and answer.
