UVI LOSES ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Terry Layton, who has been athletic director for the University of the Virgin Islands since July, is leaving UVI to coach professional basketball in the United States.
Though the university had not received Layton's formal resignation at the time they released news of the athletic director's departure, Ronald Harrigan, vice president for Student Life and Development, said Layton told him that between the job offer and personal family considerations, he planned to resign.
UVI President Orville Kean said the plans developed by Layton would be pursued.
Harrigan said Curtis Gilpin, UVI's Women's Volleyball Team coach and former men's basketball coach would begin immediately to continue Layton's work while recruitment of a permanent athletic director is pursued.
