WESTIN TERMINATES OFFICE, ENGINEERING STAFFERS

St. John's Westin Resort joined the list of V.I. employers terminating workers as the new year gets under way, releasing four staff members this past week.
General manager Greg Lundberg said the resort’s sales manager and reservations manager were let go on Friday. Two engineers who had been operating the Westin’s waste water treatment plant received termination notices earlier in the week.
Lundberg said the waste water engineers were laid off because there had been long-standing problems with the unit’s operation, and a mainland company, TSG of Savanah, Ga., will take over the plant operations.
According to Lundberg, changes were made in the hotel's reservations department because the Westin chain has a computerized reservations center that serves all of its properties. He did not elaborate on the circumstances that led to the termination of the sales manager.
An informed source who asked not to be named said department employees were not surprised by Friday’s developments. "They’re not eliminating the reservations department," the source said, adding that some employees, including the reservations manager, had been offered other positions at the hotel.
