The 20-year-old St. Thomas man who was shot in the head on Dec. 28 died Friday morning at a Puerto Rico Hospital.
Family members told St. Thomas Source on Sunday that Rahem Donastorg, a lineman apprentice at the Water and Power Authority, never regained consciousness after he was shot in Sugar Estate last Tuesday.
He had been airlifted to Puerto Rico from the Roy L. Schneider Hospital hours after he and another man argued over the ownership of a vehicle, an argument that escalated and ended with the shooting.
On the morning after the shooting, Deputy Police Chief Theodore Carty said a preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting stemmed from an argument over who owned the vehicle. It had been escalating since the previous weekend, Carty added.
Police are reportedly following significant leads toward the identification of the suspect responsible. As of last week, police investigators had not recovered the weapon used in the shooting.
The victim is the second cousin of Sen. Adlah "Foncie" Donastorg and Police Captain Alberto Donastorg Sr.
On Sunday, police officials appealed to the community again for information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect responsible for the fatal shooting.
