SENATOR CITES WAPA, CASTLE BURKE, ROAD ISSUES

In his capacity as a member of the Senate Government Operations Committee, Sen. Adelbert Bryan has written to the committee chair, Sen. Gregory Bennerson, asking that public hearings be held to address three areas of concern.
Bryan's first concern is the proposed sale of the Water And Power Authority to Southern Energy Inc. "The general public and the employees of WAPA are entitled to know the issues" in the agreement between Southern Energy and the V.I. government, he said. He called on Bennerson to invite the WAPA Governing Board to discuss "the proposed sale or buyout agreement, as well as the detailed analysis prepared by Pricewaterhouse on the WAPA deal."
His second concern is the Estate Castle Burke housing construction project on St. Croix. Housing under construction at project Site 1 "may be inviolation of the Virgin Islands building codes," he said, asking the committee chair to invite the developer, contractor and V.I. officials with oversight for the development to appear before the committee.
His third concern, Bryan wrote, is the "common knowledge that the public roads and highways in the territory are in serious, deplorable conditions." He called on Bennerson to invite the commissioners of Public Works, Police and Property and Procurement to testify on road conditions and related public safety issues.
