A Caribbean gospel concert will take place Saturday night at the National Guard Armory. That wasn't the original plan, or even the revised plan, but it's really going to happen, and that's cause enough for jubilation on the part of Gloria Gumbs, general manager of the Jubilation! Christian cable TV station.
A month ago, Hurricane Jose forced a postponement of plans for the two-night Caribbean Gospel Concert at Palms Court Harbourview.
The event was rescheduled to Friday and Saturday, Nov. 19 and 20.
And then came Hurricane Lenny.
Now, with Lenny having left the Virgin Islands behind, the concert will go on — but as a one-night-only event on Saturday. And rain won't stop the celebration, because along with rescheduling the event last month, Jubilation! also changed the venue — to indoors at the National Guard Armory.
So, Gumbs says, the show will go on, and the public is invited to "come jam for Jesus."
Participating artists include the ensemble Promise from Barbados, J. Errol Lewis from Trinidad, and Virgin Islands gospel performers Harrella Goodwin, the Lansiquot Sisters, the Regenerated Singers, Judy Turnbull, The Redeemed Brothers, the St. John Methodist Youth Connection, and Neomie Williams.
It will be an evening of "live bands and live Caribbean gospel music," Gumbs says, adding that this will be the first in a series of such concerts to be presented locally by the Jubilation! channel.
Admission is $20. Tickets are being sold at the V.I. Christian Ministries Bookstore, Faith Christian Fellowship Bookstore, Vitraco and Nisky Bible Book and Gift Shops, and the MIC Christian Bookstore.
