A release issued from the Hovensa refinery on St. Croix Thursday morning directed all employees to report to work for their next shift beginning with day shifts Thursday.
Alex A. Moorhead, vice-president, told St. Croix Source arrangements had been made with the Police Department to allow all Hovensa workers with badges to proceed to work, despite a curfew still in place until at least 12 noon.
The refinery was shut down Tuesday evening in anticipation of Hurricane Lenny.
Moorhead said there didn't seem to be much damage at the giant refinery, but that a full inspection would be conducted Thursday.
"That's why we're asking employees to come to work. We need them to help with the cleanup."
Moorhead said any employees with personal problems that would prevent them from reporting to work must contact their departments as soon as possible to discuss the problem and request leave to attend to it.
Moorhead thanked all employees and contract workers who worked late Tuesday shutting down the refinery.
Since Hurricane Lenny has moved past St. Croix, Moorhead said the refinery would resume production as soon as possible.
