A 15-year-old St. Thomas teenager will be tried as an adult in connection with the beating and slit-throat death of a 59-year-old man in August.
Agreive "Prophet" Callwood was re-arrested Thursday morning on first-degree murder and weapons-possession charges and was bound over from juvenile to adult court to face trial.
Callwood and his brother, Jermaine Godeth, 19, have been charged with conspiracy to beat and stab taxi driver Merlin Wescott to death at his home in Estate Thomas on Aug. 18 before dumping his body off the side of a cliff in Hull Bay.
Godeth and Callwood were arrested days after the killing, but at the time Callwood's identified could not be reported, as he was being charged as a minor. V.I. law prohibits the naming by the media of minors charged with felony crimes.
Acting Police Chief Jose Garcia had said when the two were arrested that they had beaten Wescott with a baseball bat, cut his throat and then transported his body in his taxi van from his home in Sugar Estate to a Hull Bay hillside, dumped the body and abandoned the vehicle.
A resident discovered the body the next afternoon, hours after a security guard found a blood-soaked sheet, backpack and Wescott’s identification in a dumpster near the Lockhart Gardens Shopping Center.
Callwood and Godeth are being held at the Golden Grove Correctional Facility on St. Croix while awaiting trial.
