A homicide investigation is under way into the shooting death of a young St. Thomas man who was shot and killed early Sunday morning.
Major Crime Unit detectives were called out at 1 a.m. after a birthday party at the Anna's Retreat Community Center ended in a spate of gunfire.
The unidentified victim, who is believed to be in his late teens or early 20s, was shot two times, according to witnesses at the scene.
Reports from the scene also suggested that the victim had just arrived at the area when he was gunned down.
Law enforcement sources told St. Thomas Source the victim suffered what appeared to be two gunshots to the body. Police reportedly have already begun to follow significant leads toward identifying a suspect.
Officers from the Patrol Division, Special Operations Bureau and Housing Authority police joined detectives of the major crime unit and forensics agents in combing the area for evidence.
The fatal shooting is the 13th homicide in the St. Thomas-St. John district this year and the 20th in the territory.
Police officials had not commented publicly on this latest murder as of publication.
