Electric and water bills will are going to change next month but rates shouldn't go up.
According to a statement released Monday by the V.I. Water and Power Authority, months of cost/efficiency analysis have prompted the utility to change its billing format to a "self-mailer" package, the back panel of which will be a return envelope.
"We're changing our appearance, not our rates," WAPA Executive Director Raymond George said in the statement.
One major change: The new bills will notify customers of their daily average consumption.
Customers who want to pay their bills by mail or by placing them in WAPA's drop box can tear off the payment stub, snap out the return envelope, insert the stub and payment, and then mail or deposit the return envelope.
Customers who want to pay at the bank or WAPA can pay at either place by credit card, ATM card, check or cash.
The enhanced bills are one way WAPA is preparing for Year 2000, George said.
