LOCAL WRITER HOLDS BOOK SIGNING

A book signing by local author Michael Burton will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, May 15 at Dockside Bookstore in Havensight Mall. He will be adding a personal touch to his biography "John Henry Faulk: the Making of a Liberated Mind."
Former V.I. Independent reporter and current public information officer for the lieutenant governor, Burton leaves the confines of journalistic prose in this story of Texas legend John Henry Faulk, proving he is also a biographer. And one of some acclaim, at that.
Walter Cronkite says Faulk's story is "one for the books, and this one is highly recommended." James Michener calls it a "well-crafted biography." Faulk was a master storyteller of Texas culture and a pioneer in protecting freedom of speech and expression in the McCarthy era.
The comic "Genus Texana," as Cronkite has called him, put his career on the
line with publication of "Fear on Trial," his documentation of the McCarthy trials.
Before moving to St. Thomas, Burton lived and worked in Austin, Tex. for 15 years working as a journalist. He came to know Faulk personally in 1988 when he was editor of a weekly Austin paper. His series of interviews with the famous folk humorist before Faulk's death in 1990 served as the foundation for this entertaining biography.
