DELEGATE APPLAUDS ROSA PARKS LEGISLATION

V.I. Delegate Donna M. Christian-Christensen on Wednesday applauded the passage of legislation to bestow the Congressional Gold Medal on Rosa Parks for her role as the "Mother of the America's Civil Rights Movement."
Christensen was an original cosponsor of the bill, which was introduced in February by Indiana Congresswoman Julia Carson.
"It is even more important that we continue the process [Rosa Parks] started to bring justice, equality and opportunity to African Americans and other people of color," Christensen said. "I invite all the people across this country who called, wrote, and agitated for this legislation to join us in that ongoing and vital mission."
A national holiday campaign to commemorate Rosa Parks Feb. 4 birthday has been launched by Inside Gospel magazine, Christensen noted.
