The opening event of Caribbean Colour prompts me to voice an opinion. It was wonderful.
Committee chair, Mary Blazine, has done a remarkable job along with helpers, Les Anderson (hanging), Casey Cunningham (stitched two quilts, up for raffle, using swatches contributed by the participating artists), Richard Davis, Patricia Duarte (coordinating volunteer docents for the month), Jean Etsinger (publicity), Edie Paljavcsik Johnson (hanging), Jerry and Lisa Meersman (printing), Mina Orenstein (coordinating judges, etc), Anne Nayer, Shaun Pennington, Phoebe Schwartz and Gail Van de Bogart.
Many people never realize the behind the scenes work that is needed to put such a happening together. Congratulations and thanks to all of you. The food and drinks were good and plentiful thanks to The Fruit Bowl, Premier Wine and Spirits, Prime Foods, and Quality Food Corp.
The choice of location has been hard each year. Coral World has proven to be a good one. It is a beautiful spot, with supportive and friendly staff.
It lured a good opening crowd – appreciative lookers as well as buyers, and it enables the St Thomas/St John Arts Council to meet several of the goals of this yearly fund raiser. One, to raise funds. Two, to bring art (professional through child) to the public. And three, to make the show available to student groups. Thanks again for all your work.
