DELEGATE LOBBIES FOR SSI EXTENSION TO V.I.

At the annual retreat for House Democrats over the weekend, V.I. Delegate Donna M. Christian-Christensen raised with the commissioner of the Social Security Administration the need to extend the Supplemental Security Income program to the Virgin Islands.
Christensen was joined in the discussion by Delegate Robert Underwood of Guam. Christensen said she was pleased to meet with Commissioner Ken Apfel "to impress upon him yet again, the importance of the extension of SSI" to disabled people in the two districts.
SSI benefits are now only available on the U.S. mainland.
