The business community is reminded that items imported into the territory via the United States Postal Service are subject to excise tax.

  Governor John P. deJongh Jr. and First Lady Cecile deJongh offered condolences today to the family of Charles Ray Lee, a pioneer in promoting youth sports on St. Croix and a longtime supporter of the Virgin Islands Special Olympics.

 The V.I. Waste Management Authority advises St. Croix residents that its offices at Five Corners and Williams Delight will be closed for the day on Feb. 1.

 To recognize their outstanding work in education, the governor has proclaimed Jan. 27 through Feb. 2 as Catholic Schools Week.

 The insurance agent licensing exam is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Division of Banking and Insurance offices.

 The Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs (DLCA) is notifying the public of its latest territory wide gas price survey findings. The survey was completed on Jan. 24 on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John. The gas survey is designed to inform consumers on which stations offer the best fuel prices.

  Director Claudette Watson-Anderson reminds all bona fide residents of the Virgin Islands that they are required to file their individual income tax returns in the Virgin Islands with the bureau.

 The Virgin Islands Continuum of Care will conduct a Point in Time Count and survey of the territory's homeless population on Saturday, Jan. 26.

 Concerned vendors are reminded that bids for participation in the Department of Education’s Academic Enrichment and Career Exploration program in the St. Croix District are due by Thursday, Jan. 31.

 As a result of a few staff persons retiring at the end of December on St. Croix, reduced hours of operation will temporarily be in effect on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the district’s offices until new staff has been hired.
