 Veteran Hiram G. Towers, also known as "Chequi” or “Sonny," of Bay Garden, Christiansted, died on March 27 at the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital, on St. Croix. He was 79 years old.

 Adella Cecilia Mitchell, age 78, passed away in the loving company of family members on Sunday, March 24, in Miami Gardens, Fla.

 Denyce Singleton, state director of AARP Virgin Islands, has announced that Archie Jennings, an accomplished lawyer, has been selected to lead the local AARP volunteer team.

 Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge will be closed to the public from Monday, April 1 through Friday, Aug. 30.

 The Community Foundation ot the Virgin Islands (CFVI) has announced that 30 community groups and organizations have been awarded a total of $23,310 in grants through the 2013 CFVI Mini-Grant Program.

 Mae Agnes Deloris James Fontaine of Estate Frangie pani died on March 16. She was 72 years old.

The Friends of V.I. National Park is offering one university scholarship to V.I. residents studying in fields related to marine biology or natural resource management and protection.

 Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) announces scholarships. CFVI awarded a total of more than $340,750 in scholarships in 2011 to talented students from the Virgin Islands.

 Inez Altagracia Andrew, also known as “Andy,” “Ms. Inez” or “Aunt Inez,” of Estate Whim died on March 20 at her residence. She was 92 years old.
