After four years teaching at Ricardo Richards Elementary School, Harolyn Elsie Smith, 28 years-old, was selected the 2011-2012 Teacher of the Year for the St. Croix District.

 Nissa N. Copemann has been selected as the director of the Reichhold Center for the Arts at the University of the Virgin Islands. Copemann will be responsible for setting and implementing the center’s aggressive short- and long-term strategic goals.

 The University of the Virgin Islands has appointed Dr. Chandra S. Mishra to fill the Kiril Sokoloff Endowed Chair in Entrepreneurship, the university’s first endowed chair. 

St. Croix native Johanna Bermúdez-Ruiz, award-winning director and producer of the feature-length documentary "Sugar Pathways," has recently signed a distribution deal with United Films, a Los Angeles based film producer's rep company that has produced seven award-winning independent films.
