Turnbull on Nov. 5, 2001, here are the data for mid-level unclassified employees in the Property and Procurement, Public Works and Tourism Departments and the V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency.

Boating and fishing interests are reminded that certain shore areas of St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas have been designated marine reserves and/or wildlife sanctuaries. Specific and varying rules and regulations govern activities in each area. Users are urged to contact DPNR divisions for permits and information.

The local Social Security Administration office has announced a policy modification for assigning new SS numbers to applicants age one or older. Numbers will not be issued until the custodian of record verifies birth information, to avoid identity theft.

Legislation signed into law on Nov. 20, 2001, directed the University of the Virgin Islands to evaluate the administrative efficiency of the V.I. Education Department. Here, in its entirety, is the report on the study findings. The report is dated May 5, 2002.

The following report was presented by Joseph R. Thomas Jr., executive director of the Water and Power Authority on May 2, 2002, in testimony before the Senate Government Operations Committee two days after he and the WAPA board agreed to an "amicable separation" at the end of his first year as chief executive of the utility.

The territory has enacted two incentive programs, one to encourage investment in areas deemed to be "in need of economic and physical revitalization" on St. Croix and St. Thomas, the other to encourage rehabilitation of historic structures on St. Croix. Attorney Marjorie Roberts, a tax law specialist, says the programs are expected to be fully implemented in the next few months.
