Here’s what’s on tap at the V.I. Legislature this week.
On Thursday, April 25, the St. Thomas community was enjoying J'Ouvert when the celebration was shattered by gunshots which injured three people. Public safety officials immediately canceled the remainder of J'Ouvert.
When they annonced pay cuts in Athens they burned the Fiance building and rioted. Our government employees are making 8% less then they did before yet they show up for work - save for a law suit. We know the situation we are in: rum, oil and tourism. Our life blood is drying up. What are we do? Drinking more rum isn't the answer. We need to keep the money here, velocity of money is more important then ever. The government needs to quickly support local businesses, and new ones. Technical expertise, loans and fasttrack license approval. I believe they are doing a good job on points 1 and 3, and a really poor effort on point two. Do you have an idea to better serve the population? Don't be afraid to try it out. Visit the Small Business Center, they can help you structure your business plan. Lets focus on keeping those foriegn dollars here. Start a small business and lets network within this small, vibrant community. Our hope lies within ourselves. We can do it by supporting each other. Government and assist, but they can't do it for us.
