A 29-year-old corrections officer at the Golden Grove Correctional Facility was arrested Friday, charged with introducting of contraband into the jail.
Falak Umrani was detained by a another correction officer and was arrested at her place of employment by the V.I. Police Deopartment. According to police, she was found to be in possession of one and a half ounces, or 45 grams, of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a cell phone and charger hidden on her person and in her bag.
Bureau of Corrections Director Rick Mullgrav said security measures at the territory’s detention facilities have been “beefed up” under his leadership.
“This kind of behavior is most unfortunate and is not going to be tolerated,” Mullgrav said. “We have taken significant steps in recent months to prevent contraband from entering our prisons.”
