Police officers arrested a suspect in a early morning burglary and attempted sexual assault, the V.I. Police Department reported.
The 911 Emergency Call Center received a report at 4:31 a.m. Saturday of a break-in in the LBJ Gardens Housing Community. Responding officers and detectives met with the victim, who told them she’d been asleep in her residence when she was awoken by strange noises.
As the victim arose in the attempt to determine where the sounds were coming from, she came in contact with a man who had broken into residence. The victim told police she knew the man, who resided within the neighborhood.
The suspect then began to fondle the victim and attempted to initiate intercourse. She said she told the suspect she knew who he was and that she was going to phone the police. The suspect fled the residence, begging the victim not to contact the authorities.
Officers and detectives made a search of the LBJ Gardens Housing Community and located and arrested the suspect in an abandoned apartment.
Police identified the man as Alejandro Torres III. He was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary after having been positively identified by the victim.
Bail was set at $75,0000. Torres was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections, pending his advise of rights hearing.
