Would-be Thief Flees when Resident Wakes Up

A man broke into an Estate Peter’s Rest apartment Thursday morning, but fled when he awoke the occupant, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to the VIPD, at 6:30 a.m. Thursday police responded to an attempted burglary call in Estate Peter’s Rest.

The resident of the home, who was not identified by police, told officers she’d been asleep and was awoken by a loud bang on the front door of her home. She heard the sound of someone entering her home and saw a man dressed in a white jersey, dark pants and a white cap entering the area of her bedroom.

The woman told police she had not given anyone authorization to enter the home.

She said she pretended to sleep, but lifted her head slightly, and the intruder apparently saw her movement and ran out of the home through the front door.

The suspect had gained entry into the home by damaging the dead-bolt lock at the front door, police said.

The resident of the home wasn’t harmed in the incident, and no items were discovered to have been missing.

The incident is under continued investigation.
