Customers Robbed at Christiansted Bar

Two armed men robbed three customers at a Christiansted bar Tuesday night, the V.I. Police Department reported.

Police are investigating the armed robbery that occurred at a bar on Hospital Street just before 11 p.m. No one was injured in the robbery, but the robbers made off with cash and jewelry from the three victims.

According to the preliminary police report, three men were in the bar when they were approached by two slim men wearing black clothing and black masks covering their faces. One suspect was armed with an assault rifle and the other with a hand gun, witnesses said.

The suspects robbed the customers of their personal cash and watches, including a Rolex watch valued at more than $35,000. Before the suspects ran from the scene they threatened to shoot the victims if they tried to chase after them.

While the suspects were fleeing eastward, one of the victims fired several shots at them.

Two employees of the bar were also present during the robbery.

Witnesses described the men as being about 6 feet tall, with low haircuts.

The case is being investigated by detectives of the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Anyone with information on the crime can call detectives at 1-340-712-6031 or 1-340-712-6024, the emergency 911 dispatch center or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
