West Indies Lab 5-Mile Road Race Rewards Predictors of Time

John Harper wins by predicting his time in the West Indies Lab 5-Mile Road Race.John Harper predicted he would run the tough but scenic West Indies Lab 5-Mile Road Race in 46 minutes, and that’s exactly what he did to take first place in the event that ranks the runner who runs the race closest to the time they predict. Teddy Seymour was second with a time of 54:16 (predicted 54:16), and Aden Stevens was third in 40:30 (predicted 41:00), according to a press release by the V.I.Pace Runners.
Briget Klein won the award for being the fastest runner in the race as she crossed the line in 33:54. She had predicted the time of 35 minutes which place her fourth in the prediction category.
Notes:
1] John Harper, Teddy Seymour, Ned Jacobs and Mile Klein are no strangers to this race as they have been running it and other V.I.Pace races since the 80s.
2] The scenic but hilly East End Road on St. Croix was the course for the running of the 30th West Indies Lab 5-Mile Road Race. Thirty years ago marine biology students from Fairleigh Dickinson University traveled to St. Croix to study its expansive marine life. The point-to-point race went from the old lab on the East End Road (across from the St. Croix Yacht Club) to Southgate. The visiting students were welcomed and given an opportunity for a fun competition between them and the local runners.
The next event on the V.I.Pace Runners calendar is the 4-H/V.I.Pace Runners Cross-Country Series Race No. 3 to be held on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the UVI St. Croix Campus…the open race is a 5K, which starts at 5:30 p.m. following the 1-mile elementary school boys race, which will start at 3 p.m., followed by the 1-mile elementary girls’ race, and the boys and girls Junior Varsity 2-Mile races.
The first St. Croix Turkey Trot 5K (open) and 1-mile (children under 13) will be held on Sunday afternoon on Nov. 23.
