V.I. Terminal Services – a Hovensa contractor doing piping, tank work and repairs – donated pampers, toiletries, nutritional supplements and more Wednesday to the Queen Louise Home for Children, according to Lutheran Social Services, which runs the home.
V.I. Terminal Services staff led the effort, making personal donations that the company doubled in a match. After the fundraising was over, staff members reached out to Queen Louise Home Director Dana Holtz for the “Queen Louise Home for Children and Sister Emma Cottage wish list.” Over the following week, Wranda Dariah and Glenn Arrindell of V.I. Terminal Services went on a mission to five different stores to find the best deals and get the maximum amount of items with the money that was raised. The end result was a van full of Pedialyte, pampers, lunch kits, pillows and enough other necessities to almost fill an entire room, according to Lutheran Social Services.
This is the second year V.I. Terminal Services staff selected Queen Louise Home for Children and Sister Emma Cottage as the recipients of their company’s generosity. Last year, V.I. Terminal Services purchased nearly every item on the Queen Louise Home wish list, according to the company, which opened its doors in the territory in recent years and employs 30 people.
The Queen Louise Home for Children was established in 1904 to provide loving care and a safe haven for children in the territory who were victims of abuse or neglect. Since its very first day, Queen Louise Home has kept its doors open 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. Queen Louise Home takes care of children from all three islands and does all it can to help instill a sense of stability, family, and safety for children who are in a difficult transitional time.
In addition, Sister Emma Cottage – located on the Queen Louise Home campus – provides around-the-clock care for children who are medically fragile and have developmental and physical disabilities.
