PRINTThree victims were injured when two armed men robbed the popular beachside restaurant, Cocoanuts on the Beach, in Frederiksted.
According to witness statements, there were four victims and two armed suspects. The three who were injured suffered cuts and bruises when suspects hit them with handguns.
According to the V.I. Police Department, officers received a call about the incident from 911 dispatchers at about 8:30 p.m. Arriving on the scene, the officers were told by witnesses that two masked men carrying handguns entered the restaurant from the beach side, approached the owner, hit him on the head with a handgun and demanded money.
At the same time, a second suspect hit the owner’s wife with a handgun, witnesses said. The owner complied with the suspects’ demand and gave him all the money from the cash register.
A third victim, an employee of the establishment, told police that one of the suspects approached him, struck him on the head with a handgun and ordered him to the ground.
A fourth victim, a female, told police one of the suspects approached her and demanded money, She gave the suspect her purse containing a cell phone and cash. She was not harmed.
Police did not provide the names of the victims.
The suspects fled the area in one of the victims’ bronze Dodge truck.
This case is being followed up by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Police ask that anyone with knowledge of the crime to call detectives at 712-6037 or 712-6077, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.
More garbage that needs to be cleaned up. The VIPD need to find these insects and disinfect St. Croix.

Obviously, you guys don't watch the news. This stuff is happening everywhere. It is the time we are living in. When you no longer live in truth and love, you will always have injustice. When money is the driving force, you will always have chaos. This is the world we all helped create, and it is the one we all have to fix, and we start by fixing ourselves. We have to live in balance. Living with a select few having more, and most having less, will never work. When we are more interested in gaining riches instead of eradicating poverty, we will live in chaos.
Sorry but I beg to differ, no it is not happening every where like here. You'd be hard pressed to find 20 murders and countless robberies in a closed community such as St.Croix with a population of around 50,000 anywhere in the states. Not to mention as of Oct 1 - a total of 39 murders territory wide in a total population of around 100,000. No, you don't find that kind of unchecked violence among communities this small. This is unusually violent - all killing and robbing is way out of control and something must be done about it. I suggest that if the VIPD can't handle it then it is up to the government to declare martial law and root out these savage creatures and dispose of them quickly so that the rest of us can live in peace and safety. We should not be worried about getting shot or robbed every time we stop for a burger and a beer.
You need to get off the island. It's nothing like this anywhere in the US, outside of South-side Chicago or inner-city Detroit.
Let's compare apples to apples not a population of 100,000 to almost 3 million. I don't think that there is a closed community in the states of 50,000 or less - with 20 murders and numerous robberies. Let's focus on the problem here and not try to offer a hugely unbalanced comparison to large out of control stateside cities. St.Croix is not Detroit or Chicago or DC and should not be compared to or try and view this out of control problem in the context of large metropolises. The murder rate here is not "normal" "business as usual" or "like anywhere" . . . it IS out of control. And if you can't see that then maybe you are already off island and detached from the reality surrounding "paradise."
The change of a community comes from within. Abandoning the island which is experiencing adversity through economical restraint isn't a solution. We who are abroad must return with solutions and not complaints to assist the much needed situation are people are facing. The time will be soon when the older folks will need to pass on the torch to our generation and we must be ready to accept the responsibility and change the face of our precious islands.
Pass the torch on to who? The uneducated gang-bangers that are running the island?
This isn't temporary adversity, this is the culmination of a culture that has defined itself on resisting and resenting education, having little to no work ethic, relying on welfare hand-outs, being content with being in poverty and allowing the same crooked politicians back into office every year because the promise people do-nothing jobs and foment racism.
The culture is a cancer, and it's not going to change. The overwhelming majority of Cruzans are happy living in poverty, with an average education level that rivals state-side 3rd graders, in a community with east-Africa like violence.
The torch will be passed to those brave enough to step up to the challenge. Those who have left the island to get educated and desire to return home and change. The islands doesn't need a paper pusher who doesn't know about the streets. The solutions for success doesn't come from sitting behind a desk, it comes from being in those same streets understanding the culture which is yes becoming a cancer to society. All the complaints will never help cultivate ideas and solutions for change. It takes courage and patience to understand who will get the torch and what will be done once it is received. Are you ready? Or are you preparing yourself for the challenge? I am!
There are more than just uneducated gang-bangers in the Virgin Islands. I'm a young Cruzan who was not happy living in poverty, and my education seems like it was equal or even better than a lot of my counterparts at my university with over 30,000 students. There are many like me who plan on coming back home to help our islands. WE are willing to take this torch when it is ready to be passed. Better yet, we will take the torch and help our islands.
