Brief: Free Swim Lessons at Frederiksted Pool

There will be free children's swimming lessons at the Vincent Mason Sr. Pool in Frederiksted every Saturday morning from Oct. 13 through Dec. 8, offered by the Department of Housing, Parks and Recreation.

The “Learn to Swim Program” is geared for youth ages 6 and up. Swimming classes are from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and from 10:30 a.m. to noon and include free introductory lessons to swimming styles and basic water safety skills.

"Recognizing that we live on an island, this initiative is an effort to provide opportunities for our residents, and particularly youth, to learn to swim. With so many residents in our community unable to swim, I encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity," Housing, Parks and Recreation Commissioner St. Claire Williams said in a statement from the department.

Registration for the “Learn to Swim Program” will be held Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon at the pool. Space is limited. To obtain more information, please contact Krystal Flores, Marine Sports Coordinator at 773-0160.
