FOUR ARRESTED ON CHARGES INVOLVING FIREARMS

Aug. 1, 2003 – St. Croix Deputy Police Chief Herminio Velazquez announced on Friday the arrest of four suspects in recent crimes involving firearms.
The arrests, on warrants obtained by the Criminal Investigation Bureau, resulted from "Operation Snatch," which focused on locating and arresting individuals "involved in violent acts against members of this community, particularly those involving firearms," a release stated.
Those arrested were:
– Jimmy Navarro, 29, a resident of the Walter I.M. Hodge housing community, on a warrant for his alleged involvement in a July 24 robbery in Estate Two Williams. He was charged with first-degree robbery and possession of a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime of violence, unauthorized possession of a firearm and ammunition, and alteration of the identifying mark of a firearm.
Police searching Navarro's residence found a 45-caliber pistol and five rounds of ammunition. He was being held without bail at the Golden Grove Correctional Facility on the robbery charges. Bail for the weapons charges was set at $25,000, which he did not post.
– Morris Huggins, 23, of the Lorraine Village housing community, was charged with third-degree assault in connection with a June 2 incident in which he and a companion are alleged to have assaulted a couple in Orange Grove.
Huggins additionally was charged with contempt of court in connection with a June 22 domestic violence incident at Dorsch Beach. He is accused of having taken the victim's vehicle without permission and of having violated a court order. Bail was set at $50,000 for the robbery charges and $1,000 for the alleged court order violation. He failed to post bond and was being held at Golden Grove.
– Shashi Seetaram, 20, also of Lorraine Village, was charged with third-degree assault in connection with the same Orange Grove incident. Bail was set at $50,000. He failed to post bond and also was remanded to Golden Grove.
– Sylvester "Sasa" Hodge Jr., 21, of the Aureo Diaz Heights housing community, was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm. Police said the charge stemmed from a March 26 incident in the Ralph De Chabert housing community. Bond was set at $1,000. He was unable to post it and was taken to Golden Grove.
"Through this successful operation, two pistols and ammunition were seized," the release stated. Velazquez asked that anyone with information concerning these or any other crimes call the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 778-2211, ext. 4530 or 4582; the Crime Hotline at 778-4950; or 911.
