Rehabilitation Begins of Parking Lot at Allick Container Port and Trans-shipment Center

The first phase of the pavement rehabilitation project that includes the public parking lot at the Wilfred “Bomba” Allick Container Port and Trans-shipment Center is scheduled to begin on Feb. 2. This project has a timeline of 60 days, with a completion date of April 2, according to a press release issued Friday by the Virgin Islands Port Authority’s (VIPA).
VIPA Executive Director Carlton Dowe said that the scope of work includes milling of the existing asphalt pavement, repair of the potholes and placement of a levelling course. A new heavy duty asphalt pavement will be added to ensure positive drainage to the existing catch basin as well as structural capacity to support loading conditions.
The contractor for this project is VI Paving Inc. at a cost of $353,918. The parking lot construction will be phased in to allow for minimal adverse impacts to tenants by maintaining sufficient parking and access to offices at all times for the duration of the project.
