Jacqueline Sprauve Wins Alumni Trustee Seat as Write-in Candidate UVI alumna Jacqueline Sprauve (‘85, ‘89 and ‘94) has been elected to serve as the next UVI alumni trustee on the UVI Board of Trustees. Sprauve, who was a write-in candidate, received the majority of the votes in the electronic election that was held from June 28 through July 5. The nomination committee certified her as the winner on July 12. Sprauve will assume the responsibilities of the alumni trustee on Aug. 1. She replaces outgoing trustee Marthious Clavier (‘02 and ‘09).
UVI’s Alumni Association of the Year Award to be Subject of ‘The UVI Insider’ on WUVI Radio WUVI radio personality Shawn Seabrookes will host a discussion about the UVI Alumni Association’s recent receipt of the HBCU National Alumni Association of the Year Award at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, during his “The UVI Insider” radio program. The association received the honor in June from the Center for HBCU Media Advocacy. Seabrookes will interview UVI Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Affairs Linda I. Smith during the program, which is scheduled to air from 11 a.m. to noon. The UVI community is encouraged to listen in on the program. It can be heard on the air at WUVI 1090AM and via Internet streaming at http://wuvi.am.
Ocwen Mortgage Servicing to Host Job Fairs This Week at UVI on St. Croix Ocwen Mortgage Servicing will host job fairs from 2 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16, and on Thursday, July 18, on UVI’s Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. Sessions will take place in the UVI Great Hall. Ocwen plans to hire up to 50 home retention consultants and several team leads for a new call center operation near Frederiksted. Intensive and thorough training will be provided to all new hires. These are full-time, career-advancement positions. They would be appropriate for recently graduated students and alumni. The job fairs are also open to the public. The positions are for St .Croix only at this point. Employment is contingent upon completion of a background check and drug testing. Ocwen Mortgage Servicing is an Equal Opportunity Employer. CSAP Sets July ‘Gatherings’ for July 17 on St. Croix and July 18 on St. Thomas UVI’s Center for the Study of Spirituality and Professionalism (CSAP) has scheduled its next “Gatherings” for July 17, on St. Croix, and July 18, on St. Thomas. CSAP Gatherings are designed to provide new connections with professionals in the community, stimulate and provide spiritual awareness, and provide a renewed sense of passion and love for life. Both sessions are for members of the UVI community.
On St. Croix, the Gathering is scheduled for 11:30 to 1 p.m. on the Grounds of the Great House on the Albert A. Sheen Campus. The presenter will be Oceana James, who will share various poetic expressions of spirituality. The St. Thomas Campus Gathering is slated for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the patio of the Administration and Conference Center. The presenter will be Jahweh David, who will share various poetic expressions of spirituality. Individuals who have a poem to share are welcome to participate.

Progressive Agriculture Safety Day to Highlight CES Summer Academy Camp on St. Croix The annual Progressive Agriculture Safety Day on UVI’s Albert A. Sheen campus is scheduled for Friday, July 19. Representatives from several agencies and organizations will present interactive safety activities and share safety information about home, farm and school locations with students who are participating in the 4-H Summer Academy camp. Some 160 students are enrolled in the camp which is run by UVI’s Cooperative Extension Service. Safety information will cover the areas of food and healthy lifestyles, conflict resolution, animal and pet safety, and gardening and pesticide safety. The event, which has become an integral part of the summer camp experience on St. Croix, will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The day is designed as a fun-filled educational event for campers who range in age from five to 14. Public Viewings at Etelman Observatory Scheduled for July 19 The next public viewings at UVI’s Etelman Observatory and Science Center are scheduled for Friday, July 19. Guests will be treated to views of the planets Venus and Saturn, the great Globular Cluster in Hercules and the first-quarter moon. Observations will be made using the Virgin Islands Robotic Telescope (VIRT). The evening will also feature a video presentation and lecture on the discoveries made by NASA’s Mars Curiosity Rover during the first year of its mission.
The event is presented free of charge to the community through a charitable sponsorship provided by Celtic Therapeutics. Space is limited. Due to parking limitation at the observatory, shuttle service will be provided from the Sibilly School parking lot (near Sibs) to the observatory at 7:30, 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. The early start is designed for the youngest guests, those under 10 years of age. Please plan to arrive at the shuttle stop about 20-30 minutes before your scheduled session start time.
RTPark Finance and Audit Committee Sets Meeting on July 19 The Finance and Audit Committee of UVI’s RTPark/RTPark-PC will meet at 2:30 p.m. (AST) on Friday, July 19. The session will take place in the RTPark Offices on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix and, via teleconference, from the St. Thomas campus. Seating is limited. UVI to Unveil 35th Season at ‘Business After Hours’ on Aug. 22 UVI’s Reichhold Center for the Arts and the St. Thomas-St. John Chamber of Commerce invite the public to the exclusive unveiling of the Reichhold Center’s 35th anniversary 2013-2014 season line-up at “Business After Hours” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, Aug. 22. The event will take place at the Reichhold Center across from Brewers Beach at UVI’s St. Thomas Campus. This will be the first opportunity for the public to preview scheduled performances for the Reichhold’s upcoming season and to purchase tickets. UVI Early Registration for Fall Semester Returning Students Now Available The University of the Virgin Islands is now offering early registration for the fall semester for returning students. UVI Conducting English and Math Placement Tests for 2013 Summer Sessions and Fall Semester The University of the Virgin Islands is conducting mathematics and English placement testing for the summer and fall 2013 semesters. See dates, times and locations for the remaining tests below. Both tests are computer-based and are administered simultaneously. There is no set time period for completing the tests, as persons continue until they are finished. However, many individuals are able to finish in approximately one hour. A picture ID is required to take the placement tests. Calculators will not be permitted during the math placement test. A math preparation guide is available at this link: http://bit.ly/taGZ6q.
