Kindergarten Registration Opens for School Year 2013-2014

The St. Croix Office of Pupil Personnel Services will begin registering kindergarten students for school year 2013-2014 on Monday, March 18, according to a press release issued on Friday by Insular Superintendent of Schools Gary Molloy.
Parents and guardians may register their children for kindergarten from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, at the Pupil Personnel Office in the Theodora Dunbavin Educational Complex, located across the street from the Honda car dealership in La Grande Princesse. All children entering kindergarten must be five years of age on or before Dec. 31, 2013. Superintendent Molloy encourages parents and guardians to register early to avoid any possible delay that may prevent their child from attending classes on the first day of the new school year.
The following documents are required and must be presented to complete public school registration where applicable:
1. Official verification of the date of birth (Original birth certificate or baptismal certificate);
2. Proof of Court Appointed Guardianship (if child is not living with one or both natural parents);
3. Social Security card
4. School Records
A. Final report cards for students entering grades 1-9
B. Official transcripts for students entering grades 10-12
5. Virgin Islands Immunization Card
6. Health clearance form from the Charles Harwood Health Clinic (blue slip);
7. Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan and evaluation data
8. Proof of residency in the St. Croix School District as follows:
A. Homeowners – Two documents required:
1. Signed closing statement or a deed or property tax receipt
2. A recent WAPA bill or Division of Motor Vehicle Registration (DMV) or driver’s license
B. Renters – Two documents required:
1. Lease signed by both parties
2. A recent WAPA or DMV form or driver’s license
If the lease is not available, a notarized Landlord’s Affidavit for Renters (call the Office of Pupil Personnel at 718-9624 for more information) must be completed and returned with a rental receipt from the landlord, plus a recent WAPA bill.
C. When parent(s) and student(s) live with a friend or family member, three documents are required:
1. Notarized Residency Affidavit (call the Office of Pupil Personnel Services at 718-9624 for more information)
2. Lease signed by both parties or signed closing statement, deed verifying the residency of the friend or family member, or property tax receipt verifying the residency of the friend or family member
3. Recent WAPA or DMV registration form or the driver’s license of the friend or family member.
A student cannot be registered if any necessary documentation is not presented when registering a child.
