WTJX and GED Testing Centers encourage people to take the GED test before 2013 deadlines. The Virgin Islands Public Television System, WTJX-TV Channel 12, has announced that the current version of the GED test will expire at the end of 2013. The current version, known as the 2002 Series GED test, will be replaced with the new 2014 GED test on Jan. 2, 2014.
Those who have taken the 2002 Series GED test but have not passed all five parts have until the end of 2013 to pass, or they will need to start over again in 2014 with the new GED test in order to receive their high school equivalent credential.
“The GED test opens doors to college, better jobs, the respect adults deserve and the satisfaction of earning a high school equivalent credential,” said Osbert Potter, CEO of WTJX-TV, Channel 12. "We at WTJX support adults’ efforts to take and pass the GED by airing GED Connection, weekdays at 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. and Sundays at 11 a.m. on Channel 12. GED Connection offers students excellent preparation for the GED exam and for the world beyond. We will be getting new GED Connection episodes in 2014 to support the changing test as well. In the meantime, we want to be sure that everyone is aware that the exam is changing. GED test-takers must act now to finish and pass before the current test expires.”
The new 2014 GED test will be based on emerging national and state standards. It will offer dual performance levels where test-takers can earn the high school equivalency credential as well as an additional endorsement that indicates career and college-readiness. The test will be delivered solely on computer and offered only in official testing centers.
“Support is available, right here in the territory,” said Michael Francois, assistant director of the Career, Technical and Adult Education at the Department of Education. “We can help adult learners get prepared to take the parts of the GED test they still need to pass. We want you to succeed!”

The last day to take the current version of the GED test in the Virgin Islands is December 11, 2013.
