Navy Seaman Cassandra C. Harris/St. Thomas
March 1, 2010 (Fleet Hometown News Center) – Navy Seaman Cassandra C. Harris, daughter of Theresa A. Tyson-Titre and Almoth J. Titre, both of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, was recently promoted to her current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
Harris received the early promotion for outstanding performance during all phases of the training cycle, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, fire fighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.
The capstone event of boot camp is "Battle Stations." This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. It is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Its distinctly "Navy" flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.
Harris is a 2008 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School of St. Thomas, V. I.
Army National Guard Pvt. Steven N. Felicien/St. Croix
March 1, 2010 (Joint Hometown News Service) – Army National Guard Pvt. Steven N. Felicien has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values. He received instruction and practice in physical fitness, basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
He is the son of Nicodemus Felicien of Estate Whim, Frederiksted, Virgin Islands, and nephew of Sonja Clairmont of Bradford Court, Princeton, N.J.
Navy Seaman Valencia K. Connor/St.Thomas
March 5, 2010 (Fleet Hometown News Center) – Navy Seaman Valencia K.Connor is assigned to Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), which recently received the Battle Efficiency Ribbon or Battle "E" award, given to the most battle-ready carrier in the Pacific fleet.
Since 2006, Reagan’s first year of eligibility for the Battle "E," the ship has won three of the past four years 2006, 2008 and 2009. To win a Battle "E," an aircraft carrier must win a number of different departmental awards and sailors are evaluated on their performance.
In addition, Reagan recently earned the coveted golden anchor for fiscal year 2009 after surpassing the reenlistment benchmark to win the Retention Excellence award, which is presented annually to ships, squadron, shore and staff commands that have won two or more quarterly honor rolls during the fiscal year. The golden anchors are a visual symbol and trophy acknowledging the exceptionally high reenlistment rate aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.
Reagan is currently undergoing a planned incremental maintenance period (PIA) and is moored in its homeport of San Diego.
The Navy seaman is the niece of Janet Morton of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Connor joined the Navy in March 2009.
Navy Seaman Lauren A. MacNeil/St. Thomas
March 5, 2010 (Fleet Hometown News Center) – Navy Seaman Lauren A. MacNeil recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.
During the eight-week program, MacNeil completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

She is a 2003 graduate of Abeka Academy of Grapevine, Texas, and a 2007 graduate of Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant, Okla. with a BA degree.
Army Spec. Jermaine O. Hanley/St. Croix
March 5, 2010 (Joint Hometown News Service) – Army Spec. Jermaine O. Hanley has returned to Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska, after being deployed to Afghanistan for one year. The soldier is one of 3,500 members of the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division stationed at Fort Richardson. Airborne combat team members included soldiers assigned to one of six battalions and regiments of the 25th Infantry Division.
The airborne brigade served in three eastern provinces of Afghanistan, which included the Paktya, Paktika and Khost. Some of the challenges the brigade soldiers faced included poverty, unemployment, security, and management of natural resources and government institutions. Soldiers improved roads, provided vocational training in construction and civics, improved and re-opened 29 schools, remodeled six medical clinics and improved three district courthouses.
Hanley, a petroleum supply specialist, is assigned to the 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment. He has five years of military service.
He is the son of Marissa A. Joseph of Estate Whim, and Oliver Hanley of N. Calcohoun St., both of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.
The specialist is a 2004 graduate of the St. Croix Educational Complex.
Air Force Airman Joslin R. Folkes
Air Force Airman Joslin R. Folkes/St. Thomas
March 14, 2010 (Joint Hometown News Service) – Air Force Airman Joslin R. Folkes graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
She is the sister of Madgeline Folkes of Estate Hull Bay, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.

March 17, 2010 (Joint Hometown News Service) – Army National Guard Pvt. Ishmael Mills has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Her husband, Army Staff Sgt. Charles Dutart Jr., is the son of Karen Forrest of Mount Pleasant, S.C.
Air Force Airman Clifeton E. Lawrence

March 17, 2010 (Joint Hometown News Service) – Air Force Airman Cliffeton E. Lawrence graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Deborah Washington of Peachtree Dunwoody Road N.E., Sandy Springs, Georgia, and the grandson of Bianca Dazle of Anna’s Retreat, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Lawrence is a 2006 graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School, St. Thomas.
