Celebrate the life and achievements of Marcus Garvey, UNIA founder of Jamaica, guided in his early years by St. Croix native son Hubert Harrison and Rev. Dr. Edward Wilmot Blyden, African statesman and repatriate leader of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Join the Global African Diaspora commemorations honoring Garvey's 125th EarthDay celebration-Aug. 17, 1887, and Rev. Dr. Blyden's 180th EarthDay-Aug. 3, 1832. It will take place at Harbor Lites Courtyard in Frederiksted, St. Croix (across the street from Buddhoe Park and Fort Frederik). Admission is free and donations are welcomed.
There will be special international artists, cultural presentations, drumming, dance, poetry, spoken word, V.I. tributes, UNIA-ACL reports, Global African Diaspora/SRDC News Reports, video presentations and more. Natural refreshments will be available.
The event is organized by UNIA-ACL Queen Mary Hubert Harrison Division No.307-United Virgin Islands with support of Harbor Lites Courtyard and Fun Center, Per Ankh M Smai Tawi, KWANZAA365, Sankofa Saturdays, Sekhmet Enterprises, NBQD, LLC, IPAD Projects, SRDC, PADU, NAADUC and God's House International.
