American Advertising Federation Holds 2012 ADDY Awards Gala and Dinner

The2012 ADDY Awards Gala and Dinner, presented by the American Advertising Federation of the U.S. Virgin Islands, will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, at Marriott’s Frenchman’s Reef Hotel, St.Thomas. This year’s ADDY theme is “Celebrating 45 Years of Excellence” in honor of the 45th anniversary of the Addy Awards. The event is proudly sponsored by Innovative, CBS-TV2 andScotia Bank. Tickets are $75 per person and are available to the general public by calling MLB Creative at 774-8478 or online at www.AdClubVI.org.

“As the theme suggests, this year’s ADDY Awards not only features the biggest and best advertising that the U.S. Virgin Islands has to offer, but the show also celebrates excellence in talent within the media professionals here in the territory,” said Kevin Hughes, immediate past president of the AAF-USVI. "This year attendees will be treated to new special touches and upgrades that we’ve added to take the show to the next level, including the Red Carpet Welcome and Paparazzi Photo Wall, just like a major Hollywood Award Show, live music, wine, dinner and dancing."
Moreover, the night will be made even more special as AAF-USVI honors advertising and media moguls Lee Carle with its LifetimeAchievement Award and Sheldon Turnbull with its Emerging Leader in Media Award.
“This year we are very proud to be adding Media Achievement Awards in the four major fields of advertising and marketing to honor the professionals who consistently excel in their discipline each year,” said Lisa Jamil, president of the AAF-USVI. "Our 2012 honorees include Sandra Goomansingh of CBS-TV2 for television, Anthony Peets, better known as DJ Tony T, of Ackley Media Group for Radio,Rita Jones and Jennifer Sibilly of Media Marketing for print and Shaun A. Penningtonof the Source for new media."
In addition to the local ADDY’s, the award show is also held nationally as part of one of the many events hosted by the National American Advertising Federation. Nationally, The ADDY Awards represent the true spirit of creative excellence by recognizing all forms of media and are the largest advertising competition in the world. Winning entries from the local V.I. ADDY Awards go on to represent the territory, and compete in the larger National Competition.
“This is our signature event, which celebrates the creativity of the advertising community within the V.I. It is highly anticipated, and attracts not only those who have submitted their advertising campaigns into the competition, but also many business owners, marketing, sales and other media professionals as well,” said Lisa Jamil, president of the AAF – USVI.
A portion of the proceeds from the ADDY’s will go toward support of community-based programs such as the Advertising Club and the UVI Internship Program, where the organization assists students in finding meaningful internships and ultimately jobs within their chosen field of interest. This year, The Ad Club is putting all of its resources and fundraising efforts towards the creation of a permanent UVI Endowment Scholarship Fund, which will benefit local students in the territory majoring in the field of communications.
Nationally, the American Advertising Federation has 200 member clubs in 15 districts within the U.S. and the Caribbean. The AAF-USVI is a part of the 4th district, which also includes Florida.
