Ridge to Reef Farm Offers Two Workshops

Workshop Slated on How to Build with Bamboo
Learn hands-on bamboo craft this Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ridge to Reef Farm/Virgin Islands Sustainable Farm Institute this Sunday, Jan. 29, with Jo Scheer, a bamboo master and author of the book "How to Build with Bamboo." Pick up some new skills working with the world's most versatile plant.
Scheer made a name for himself through years of bamboo craft that led to his natural home design starting of the "world’s smallest footprint" for what the Travel Channel called the "World’s Greatest Treehouse." He invented these bamboo "hooches" in Rincon, Puerto Rico, and has been teaching and building them around the world.
He will focus on smaller bamboo crafts to teach the principals in a one-day, hands-on workshop that will open up participants to the world of bamboo building.  Participants should bring any saws or cutting tools they may have.
A fresh farm lunch will be included. There is a sliding scale of $35-45 for adults. Children’s 18-and-younger rate is $25.
Ridge to Reef Farm Presents Two-Day Workshop: The Art of Mentoring
Ridge to Reef Farm offers an overnight, mentoring skill-building experience for adults. It will be held for two days including a workshop and a fire campout, 9:30 a.m. on Saturday through 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 4 and 5. Explore natural elements of healthy community relationships. While global in scope, the world-touring Art of Mentoring program is medicine for local communities. It is musical, flavorful and powerful. Join outdoor educator, author and musician Evan McGown along with Frederiksted right-of-passage mentor Tahirah AbuBakr for a healing and powerful event rooted in indigenous tradition and nature connections.
Both days in the program include personal, group and inter-group activities mixed with inspirational storytelling, music and natural awareness. Please bring instruments, drums, etc.
Three fresh farm meals will be included. There is a sliding scale of $85-115 for adults, which includes camping (bring a tent) or $45 extra for a cabana bunk.
