Sgt. 1st Class (Ret.) Paul Edward Joseph Sr. Dies at 60

Sgt. 1st Class (Ret.) Paul Edward Joseph Sr. Sergeant First Class (Ret) Paul Edward Joseph Sr. died on Monday, June 16, at age 60, in Houston, Texas.
“Pablo,” or “Junie,” as many called him, was preceded in death by his parents: Paul Emmanuel Joseph and Mary O. Galloway Joseph (of St. Kitts); his brothers: Alva “Square Deal” Joseph, the Honorable Judge Antione Joseph. Jr., Aus-tin Bowen Sr. and Cephus Rogers Sr.; and by his sisters: Helen Joseph Williams, Elaine Joseph Nathaniel, Thyra Jo-seph and Mary Joseph Lewis. He is also preceded in death by his nephews: Antonio Joseph and Dave Bowen.
Paul is the descendant of a long line of Crucians: his father, Paul Emmanuel, was born to Adelaide James (born in 1863 to Ellin Petersen and Edward James) and Edward Joseph in 1893 on Estate Concordia. Edward Joseph’s parents were Maria Elizabeth and Thomas Joseph. Thomas was born circa 1815 to Susana (She was born in 1780 at Estate Concordia) and Joe Joseph. Joe Joseph was born circa 1786 in Africa.
Sgt. 1st Class Joseph is survived by his daughter, Oceana Joseph James; his second wife, Anita L. Joseph; their eight children: Paul, Andre, Paul E., Andrea, Justin, Michael, Joline and Julian Joseph; his daughter-in-law, Veronica Joseph; and six grandchildren: Sterling M.D. Gaston; Jasmyne, Jeremiah, Montinezes, Olivia S. M. and Elijah A. Joseph.
He is also survived by his sister, Hermingilde Joseph; nieces: Gerda Nathaniel, Martha Joseph Acevedo, Mel-rose Bowen, Franlian Bowen Ash, Sharon Rogers Drummer, Brenda Rogers Booker, Evadney Rogers Key, and Zerelda and Leona Bowen, and Meloma Lewis Alexander; nephews: Gabby Nathaniel and Roberto Joseph, Austin, Joseph and Raphael Bowen, William, Cephus, James, Floyd and John Rogers, Antoine Joseph Jr., Vincent Lewis and St. Clair E. Goodwin; and by nu-merous great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as other family members and the Carter, Galloway, Turner and Tyson families.
In 1978, Paul E. Joseph Sr. enlisted in the United States Army. He completed overseas tours in the Federal Republic of Germany, and the Republic of Korea. His stateside assignments included Fort Benning, Georgia, Fort Bliss, Texas, and Fort Carson, Colorado. His deployments included Bosnia Herzegovina, Africa and Iraq. Sgt. 1st Class Joseph served his most recent assignment at Fort Carson, Colorado, before his retirement, after 20 years, in October 1998. He received numerous awards and commendations.
