On Thursday, April 25, the St. Thomas community was enjoying J'Ouvert when the celebration was shattered by gunshots which injured three people. Public safety officials immediately canceled the remainder of J'Ouvert.

Asselita E. Wyatt Dies at 99

Asselita E. Wyatt, also known as "Mommie,” “Momms” or “Miss Assie," of Estate Diamond Ruby died on May 1 at her residence. She was 99 years old.
She is survived by her daughter, Esther Davis; adopted daughter, Violet Connor; grandchildren: Gloria M. Davis-Rodgers, Lorna E. Davis, Anna M. Harrigan Nurse, Hubert H. Davis, Jr, Annette M. Davis, June L. Rodney, Barbara J. Mitchel. Judith D. Rhymer, Wayne E. Rhymer, Sonia Harrigan, Jacklyn Harrigan and Henry Harrigan Jr.; grandson-in-law, Leonard Rodgers; and great-grandchildren: Danica David, Lloyd Kiambo David, Leonarda Rodgers, Cemonique Davis, Troy Davis, Mark Davis, Andre Davis, Anthony Davis, Stephanie Davis, Anique Thomas, Anthony Anduze, Ronald Rodney, Aubrey Leon, Jaynese Watson, Sherese Mitchel, Shanelle Mitchel, Saleta Mitchel, Leonce Mitchel, Joshua Peterson, Aisha Nurse, Ayalua Nurse, Destiny, Royena Lynch, Saida Lynch, Shawn Gabriel, Frederick Gabriel, Kalila Gabriel, Troy Gabriel, Vanessa Rodney, Mesha C. and Troy M.
She is also survived by great-great grandchildren: Layla Veira, Aylah Veira, Jahyla Veira, Shayla Braffith, Jaleel Veira, Jazmine Braffith, Kenneth Francis, Keanna Francis, Oshawna Gabriel, Jahshawn Gabriel, Anaijah Smith, Ajani Smith, Alex William, Kristen David, Kaylan DaCosta, Kori David, Odayah McEaven, Shareem Mitchell, Aalyah Davis, Shamya Davis, Alaire Davis, Jayden Davis and Ayden Davis; sister, Ida Fleming; brother, Hubert Fleming; nieces: Mavis Hennesey, Beverly Bonneau-Gumbs and Berecia Canton; nephew, Dalton Fleming; special friends: Leola Carroll and members of the Bethel A.M.E. Church; as well as other relatives and friends too numerous to mention. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, at the Bethel A.M.E. Church. Interment will follow at Kingshill Cemetery.
