ST. Thomas Employees Honored for Exemplary Service by CHTA

The United States Virgin Islands Hotel & Tourism Association (USVIHTA) has announced that Kendra Daniel of Frenchman’s Reef and Morning Star Marriott’s Beach Resort has been recognized as Associate of the Year by the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA).  She is also a 2011 USVIHTA Tommy Star winner.  Daniel whose philosophy is “manage as you would want to be managed” was recognized for her outstanding commitment to service by the CHTA at their annual Caribbean Tourism Summit and Outlook Seminar held in Montego Bay, which was also their 50th anniversary.
Richard Doumeng, who is president of the CHTA and managing director of Bolongo Bay Beach Resort on St. Thomas, said that the award was a wonderful way to recognize Daniel as well as the dedication of the many employees who make up the tourism industry in the U.S.V.I.
During the two-day event, CHTA gave out a 50th anniversary commemorative booklet, which also honored Viola Albert, one of the first employees hired by Dick and Joyce Doumeng more than 38 years ago when they took over Bolongo Bay Beach Resort.   "I have great hope for the future of the hospitality profession in our region," said Richard Doumeng. "Together these ladies combine old-school hospitality, charm and work ethic with the new-school training of a modern hotel. They are a success story of the people who work in our industry and a wonderful example of the best of the Caribbean today."
Lisa Hamilton, President of the USVIHTA, said the award to Daniel and recognition of Albert in the booklet is special as there are more than 35 countries throughout the Caribbean who submit applicants for consideration. "Associate of the Year is a very competitive category and for Kendra along with Ms. Albert to be recognized for their efforts in the tourism industry is a statement about the overall quality of service offered by all of the industry professionals in the USVI," she said.
