VIWMA Enforces Policy on No Acceptance of Liquid Waste

The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) reminds business owners that a licensed and permitted waste hauler is required for the proper disposal of all liquid waste, including cooking oil. This hauler must be licensed and permitted specifically to handle the proper disposal of liquid waste, like cooking oil. The authority does not accept liquid waste at the landfill nor the wastewater treatment plants. The waste haulers who are permitted by the authority are not allowed to dispose of liquid waste, including cooking oil, at any of its facilities. Anyone caught illegally disposing of liquid waste at the VIWMA’s facilities will be cited.
Businesses who dispose of used cooking oil and other liquid waste are to ensure that their waste hauler is permitted to legally dispose of liquid waste. Currently, there are no facilities on island which accept liquid waste and it is shipped off island for disposal.
