Bravo WAPA!

I heard someone say recently, "I don’t want to hear about Marilyn or Hugo."
Really? Why is that?
You just want to complain without heed to all the miraculous improvements that have been made – with very little help from the community – since those two storms rendered us powerless for months?

Well, I don’t want to hear about how awful it was to go a week without air-conditioning, especially after returning from a country where most of the people will never know what it means to have electricity at all – ever – in their lifetimes.

One person, or institution, after another blocks any attempts that our Water and Power Authority makes to improve its cost effectiveness and reliability and then complains that in a few areas it took a whole week to restore power after 105 mile-an-hour winds struck our islands.

Are you kidding me?

I, for one, am on my knees thanking the very hardworking people at WAPA who worked night and day to get us up and running again and who all the while took some pretty nasty abuse from the sinfully ungrateful among us.

What is wrong with you people? Take a trip to the rest of the world some day. Find out what it is like to walk miles for water and to cook your food over wood fires. Or just open a book about it.

One week!!!
That's all it took; and yet some still had the nerve to complain.

Not me.

God bless you, WAPA!!!!!

I personally do not want to hear about Hugo and Marilyn. It appears to be used as an excuse. Hugo was 21 years ago. Marilyn was 15 years ago. Seems like ample time to repair, improve and replace a broken infrastucture doesn't it? If WAPA really wants to help the hardworking people why didn't they give us a little leaway in paying our bills that were due the week of Earl. The little funds we had were spent buying ice, replacing our food and purchasing fuel for our generators if we were the fortunate ones to have one. We are not a third world country. We reside in a place of hard working people that have to face huge bills for basic needs. If we were given the chance to be successful here wouldn't that allow us to help others less fortunate like those in Rhawanda or should we just join them?
