WAPA Leak Repairs Affect Central St. Croix

The V.I. Water and Power Authority is doing emergency repairs on a series of mainline leaks that appeared in the St. Croix water distribution system early Friday morning, causing water service interruptions in the central part of the island.

The areas in which the leaks occurred include the 10-inch main across from the American Red Cross in Sunny Isle, the 6-inch main servicing the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital, the 10-inch main in front of the John H. Woodson School and a 6-inch main in Estate Calquohoun, according to a WAPA statement.

While technicians investigate the cause of the leaks and continue the repairs, water service will be interrupted for all customers in the areas from Estate Contentment to Sunny Isle. This includes Estates Catherine’s Rest, Work and Rest, Humbug, Sion Farm, Peter’s Rest, Strawberry, Hermon Hill, Beeston Hill, Contentment and all customers surrounding the Sunny Isle area.

Additionally, service interruption can be expected at the John Woodson and Alfredo Andrews schools and an isolated area of Estate Calquohoun.

WAPA asks residents to report any leaking water in areas other than those reported above and urges motorists to drive carefully in the affected areas. Reports can be made to the Water Department at 773-7795 and 773-3775 or to a WAPA customer service representative at 773-2250 extension 4064.
