Castle Coakley Shooting Leaves One Dead

A man walking to work Thursday morning was shot and killed in the Castle Coakley area, the V.I. Police Department said.

It was the 17th homicide on St. Croix since the beginning of the year, the 38th in the territory.

According to police, at around 7 a.m. Thursday the 911 Emergency Call Center received a call of shots being discharged in the Castle Coakley area. Officers at the scene found an unresponsive Hispanic male – identified as the 27-year-old Camacho – with a gunshot wound to the head.

The victim died of injuries sustained from the gunshot.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Camacho was walking on his way to work when he was shot.

Police urged anyone with information about the case to call the Criminal Investigation Bureau Crime line at 340-778 4950, the 911 emergency call center, or the anonymous tip service, 1-800-222-8477.
