Two Face Firearm Possession Charges

Two men were arrested Tuesday after the car they were in was searched by officers, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to the police, at 9:26 p.m. Tuesday VIPD officers responded to a 911 report of a suspicious vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, driving into a yard and turning off its headlights.

Officers approached the car and received permission from one of the occupants, 21-year-old Akeem Young, to search it, police said.

The search of the vehicle revealed one unlicensed firearm in the engine compartment and two fully loaded magazines underneath the gear shift. Young was placed under arrest and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm. A search of the vehicle’s other occupant revealed an unlicensed firearm. 23-year-old Akilo R. Pilgrim was placed under arrest and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Both Young and Pilgrim were transported to the Golden Grove Detention Center pending an advice of rights hearing.
