Applications for $10,000 Viya Scholarships Now Available

Viya, formerly Innovative and Choice Wireless, the largest telecommunications provider in the U.S. Virgin Islands, recently merged and became a new communications and entertainment company. CEO Alvaro Pilar has announced Viya Scholarships for graduating high school seniors in the territory.

Pilar said, “Viya is committed to investing in the community’s future by supporting students who are studying telecommunications, engineering and other disciplines that will bolster technological advancements in the Virgin Islands and the region.”

Viya Scholarships will be awarded to two Virgin Islands high school seniors — one in each district — who have already been accepted to a college or a university to pursue a degree in one of the following areas: science, technology, engineering, mathematics, business administration, accounting or related fields. The winning student in each district will receive a one-time $10,000 scholarship to be used for tuition only.

Applications are available at the security desks at the Viya Customer Experience Centers in Estate Diamond on St. Croix, Tutu Park on St. Thomas and The Marketplace on St. John. Applications are also available from guidance counselors at all Virgin Islands high schools. Further, students can obtain applications by downloading the requisite forms from Viya’s Web site: http://www.viyavi.com/viyascholarship-applications-available/.

All completed applications must be submitted to one of Viya’s offices or postmarked by Wednesday, May 31. Full instructions on the submittal process are included in the application packets provided at the aforementioned locations and Viya’s Web site.

“I am encouraging talented, local students with an interest in STEM programs and related fields to apply for the Viya Scholarship. We are very excited about the opportunity to provide financial assistance to worthy, young scholars as they continue their educational endeavors,” said Pilar.
