‘Red Brick’ Shooting Leaves One Dead

A man was killed in a shooting Thursday night in the D. Hamilton Jackson area known as the “Red Brick” housing community.

The name of the victim had not been released as of Friday evening, pending notification of the next of kin. It was the eighth hommicide on St. Croix since the start of the year, the 20th in the territory.

According to the V.I. Police Department, an officer on patrol reported hearing shots fired at 10:22 p.m. Thursday in in the D. Hamilton Jackson area.

Officers responded and a search was conducted to find where the shots had been fired. Callers to 911 helped direct the officers to the location of the victim. When officers reached at the scene they discovered an unresponsive black male individual who had been shot multiple times.

EMT and Medical staff on scene pronounced the victim dead. He was transported to the morgue by the morgue attendants.

Police urged anyone with information on the shooting to call the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-778-2211, the 911 call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
